I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Instead of using W3 Total Cache I thought I would try the Falcon Engine caching in Wordfence found in Performance Setup. However once this is enabled, on the front page of the website appears a link to “affordable life cover” (https://www.zipngoinsurance.com/). I have scanned the site with Wordfence – no problems found. I have enable the other option “Basic Caching” – no link. This advertising seems to be coming from enabling the Falcon Engine.

  • Hello
Also I have eliminated other caching plugin and I have activated Falcon, just like you did. No advertising appears on my site. Probably you’ve got something in the PC or the browser. Install an add-on for your browser to block ads and then clean the PC.
    Good luck

    Candlelite:

GDM57 is correct that Falcon does not add anything like this on its own — it might also be correct that it is something in your browser adding the link just for you. You can test that if you have another PC or tablet that you can use to visit the site.

I have also seen one instance where a user’s PC had malware that inserted links in each post, each time they edited them, so you might also double-check that the link or any unexpected <script> tags are not in the body of the post/page where you see the link.

There is also a chance that something on your server is modifying the .html files that Falcon creates, or a bad plugin on the site is modifying the content and normally hides itself. If you know how to access the files on your site (by FTP or shell access, or through your control panel), you can find Falcon’s cached files at:
    wp-content/wfcache/yoursite.com_/

In the html files in that directory, you can look for the link, or unusual scripts if you’re familiar with what should normally be there.

    Guys

Thanks very much for your responses. Yes I thought I had a virus but I have scanned my PC with MalwareBytes and I have Avast installed and nothing has been found. I also checked the site using different browsers and a different PC – the link was visible. I then thought I was going mad – the link disappeared! But this morning it is back. I have gone through the same checking process and have found nothing. If I log into the Dashboard and view the front page – no link.
I put the site back to basic cache and cleared the cache. The link disappeared. I have re enabled the Falcon Engine but no link. I think this could be a long job to find this problem – think I may go back to W3 cache.

You can certainly go back to w3tc but I just want to say that even if you do, something is probably on your site somewhere that needs addressed. Falcon does not add links to your site. Ever. If you have a link showing up on the main page you have something adding it. Using another plugin that doesn’t show the link isn’t really fixing the problem. I agree with Mattr in that you should do a search for *zipngo* in that directory (probably easiest with ssh access or ask your hosting provider to look).

Tim – I agree the problem is the site as I have eliminated the problem being on my PC. I have decided, as a first step, to enable the Falcon Engine on another site I have and see what happens. If this comes to nothing (which is what I hope) then I will dig deeper into the site where I am having this annoying problem.

Ok, let us know how it goes. There is also a chance that the host does not have files separated securely from other users if it is a shared host, and other users’ infected sites could actually add the links to the cached .html files on your site.
