    Hi,

How come when I enable Falcon Engine:

    1. the page load speed becomes almost 3 times longer? could be from 2.4 sec to 5.6 sec when it suppose to improve the speed from 30 to 50 times. A total page size increases and PageScore increases too…

    2. Switching to Basic Caching improves the site speed but first it messes up with my .htaccess file by turning off all writing and executing premissions.

I tried the plugin so far on 4 different sites with the same results above.

    Please advise!

    Thank you!

Are the 4 sites on different servers, or the same server? It might be an issue with configuration of the host, or a conflict with other plugins on the sites. I’ve seen issues reported on a few sites that cause no performance increase, but I haven’t seen a significant decrease like this.

Can you also post a copy of your .htaccess file? If I can see the original file, another copy with Falcon enabled, and a copy after switching from Falcon to basic caching, that would be most helpful.

You can post them using pastebin.com or another site, and just link to them here. (www.ads-software.com asks us not to post large files.) If there is any sensitive information, you can remove it before posting, too.

If there is anything special about the site, like custom directory names or redirects that are done somewhere other than .htaccess, let me know that too.

Yes, all the sites are on the same server.
There is nothing special about the sites, no redirections, etc.

Please download the file with htaccess files for you to analyze here:

I also, tried to use wordfence with different (from the one in the attached file) site with all other plugins off and the result is nearly the same. And I noticed when switching from the Basic Caching to Falcom all Write and Execute permissions in htaccess file are being switched off.

Hope this helps and please let me know your findings.

    Thank you!!

Thanks for the additional details. When you enable Falcon caching, there should be a large block of code added to the .htaccess file, which isn’t happening on your site. Do you get a message about the code when enabling Falcon? Normally it should appear, but perhaps there is something unusual about your server’s setup, or another plugin is overwriting the .htaccess file after it has been changed.

If you want to try manually adding the code to .htaccess, you can find it here.

When you said the write and execute permissions in the .htaccess are being switched off — do you mean on the file itself? The file should be readable and writable by the web server process and not executable by anyone, but how to set it up varies by host. If the file becomes read-only after it is written, your host would probably have to change settings to prevent that from happening.

No, this i what I’ve noticed too. After enabling Falcon or Basic caching I don’t see any changes to my .htaccess file. As i mentioned I tried with all the plugins disabled and had the same issue.
And not I don’t get any message about the code being enabled. Just an error sometime about not being able write to haccess file and that’s when i have to go and turn writing permissions on. I just checked and the file is Read-only again after I tried to enable the Falcon. And no changes to htaccess. I’ll try later on to add the coed to htaccess file.

Now after changing to Basic caching I get this: https://prntscr.com/9t595e And no cages to htaccess again…

    Thank you!.

Ok just tried to add the code to the htaccess file and this what’s happening. After saving i then refresh my FTP client and open htaccess file again and i see the code I just added to it has disappeared.. Tried it a few time and the code disappears all the time… not sure what’s going on…

Ok, that’s definitely unusual. Since you get the warning about being unable to remove the caching code when switching from Falcon to Basic caching, it does sound like the .htaccess file is no longer writable.

It’s strange to see it change after you’ve manually changed by using FTP. If it’s not another plugin changing it, it may be something that your host has set up, possibly to try to protect the .htaccess file from changes. I’d recommend contacting the host to see if they have anything like that set up.

I check other sites and looks like the word fence is responsible for changing the Write permissions. I started with the domain where httaccess had Write permissions on and after I swathed to Falcon the permissions were set to off and nothing was written to htaccess again…

I checked wordfence on other sites. I did a fresh install of wordfence on different site and looks like the wordfence is responsible for changing the Write permissions. I started with the domain where htaccess had Write permissions on and after I turn on Falcon the permissions are being set to off and nothing is written to htaccess again…

Ok, in this case, I would definitely check with the host — Wordfence doesn’t choose the permissions that are used when saving .htaccess, so it sounds like the linux user that the web server is running as has unusual settings — particularly that the “umask” may not be set correctly, or the user/group of the files written by the web server may not be correct.
