As with my other false-positive report on Comet Cache, the PHP Compatibility checker for PHP 7 is incorrectly reporting Comment Mail as “Possibly not PHP 7.0 compatible” (see full report here: https://pastebin.com/QvFjxkPV).

The reason why the “Using a call-time pass-by-reference” and “Function name ___() is discouraged” reports are invalid are explained in the Comet Cache report that I posted earlier.

The “No PHP code was found in this file and short open tags are not allowed by this install of PHP” warnings, reported here for Comment Mail, are also invalid. Here’s an example of a file where the compatibility checker is warning as containing short open tags; as you can see it does not contain any short open tags, only some snippet markup that we replace with actual HTML when this template file is processed by Comment Mail.
