• Hi,

This is my first post here, so please be gentle…

The number of available updates reported in the admin screen notification (top left) is occasionally much more than actually appear to be available.

For example just now it reported 7 updates available. When I hover the cursor over the number it says ‘1 WordPress update, 6 plugin updates’, but when I go to the updates page WP4.7 is the only available update; everything else displays as being up to date.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t permanent – most of the time the notification matches the actual available number of updates.

Please can someone give me a clue as to what might be going on here? Do I really have 6 out of date plugins (numerically, it’s possible) whose updates aren’t showing properly? Or is WordPress just getting excited?

    Thanks for your help…

    Tom

  • I do not have a definitive answer, but my guess would be a plugin is causing this. If practical you could deactivate all plugins at once then activate them one at a time to find the culprit. That can be a pain depending on which plugins you have but it is one way to narrow it down.

    Good luck.

Thanks Jerry. I think that’s something I need to do for a few issues I have…I’ll try it next time the site is down for maintenance.

    Cheers,

    Hope it works.

    Have a good one.

Can I also jump in the subject? I have exactly the same situation!

The plugin update notification is shown even when all the plugins are deactivated? Would somebody help me or direct me to find the culprit?

could this be connected to cache-ing? or to the fact that I have moved from php 5.x to 7.x?

    Thank you!

btw I am getting this notification even when all plugins are deactivated…

    anyone… any idea?
