    Hello @vnairp11

Thank you for contacting the support.

Can you please provide us with some sample URLs so we can suggest better?

Usually, if those are not 404 pages on your website, you should get your website checked for any potential security problems like someone attacking your server.

    Looking forward to helping you.

hello here is a sample url that i picked up in the 404 monitor https://canineowners.com/purebred-dogs/american-bully-dogs/false

this leads to a 404 page, i am going to redirect it in rank math to

    https://canineowners.com/purebred-dogs/american-bully-dogs/

it seems to be affecting post urls, i have redirected most of them in the past using rank math to the normal url. I have other wordpress domains on the same server and they are not having this issue.

    Hello @vnairp11

    Apologies for the delayed response.

Can you please turn off advanced error reporting in the 404 log monitor, if that is turned on?

It’s either something in the source code of your site pointing to this wrong URL, or some other site linking to the wrong URLs, or some bots doing something.

We need to narrow it down to find out the culprit.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

thank you so much for your response, advanced monitoring is currently turned off for 404’s. do you think turning this on will give me more info as to how this is happening?

how can I find out if another site is linking to these wrong URLs? it seems to happen even on new posts after they are indexed after a few weeks.

I am now manually just adding these redirects after I make a new post by adding /false for the urls to be redirected.

    Hello @vnairp11

Please enable advanced logging and see if the same IPs are hitting those URLs or if bots are hitting them.

Also, this could be a conflict with one of the products on your website. To determine that, you can follow the following troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Finally, we can also create a Regex that should prevent you from creating a redirect every time you publish a new article.

    Please let us know.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Assuming you are using the latest version of the plugin and the issue is not happening, we are closing this topic.

If that is not the case, please feel free to reply to this topic or open a new one and we would be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.

I had the same issue. I was getting a whole heap of 404s with /false (soft 404s) and I recently installed Rank Math. The problem was not Rank Math, it was me. I had an / at the end of the Destination URL. i.e. the URL was https://abc.com/sillyme/ Need to adjust the URL to https://abc.com/sillyme

that should not matter because wordpress even recommends that postname url link structure with the / at the end.

    mine is custom

    /%category%/%postname%/

    my permalink structure is https://canineowners.com/%category%/%postname%/

I have not received any new 404’s so I have the advanced logging enabled and just monitoring currently.

so I did get one today, thanks to rank math’s advanced logging – I found that it is coming from the following source

    url: general-dogs/types-of-dog-collars/false

    source:

    Googlebot-Image/1.0

does anyone know the cause of the issue, is it because images are forwarded to their main urls?

i think i found the issue, under the following setting

    Redirect Orphan Media:

    i had https://domain.com/

    instead of https://domain.com

(a slash added after the domain)

i’ve removed it, i will monitor further.

    thank you!
