Hi, I just have a basic question. When you install wordpress using fantastico, what is the email account configuration portion?

I will be installing some blogs for other people and I do no t want to create a new email for them. I’ve tried just leaving it blank, but the installation won’t proceed them.

    Thanks

Please post your request to the Fantastico Support Forums. We are not directly affiliated with Fantastico, and we do not support it here.

Why not ask them what their email is ?

Or, use yours then pass all the info to them – they can then change it.

It asks for an address and password in that section. I just want to make sure they don’t end up getting emails sent to my address on accident because I tried putting in another address and couldn’t find where it showed up in the wordpress installation.

You should be able to change the administrator’s email address in Options/General after you have installed WordPress.

That’s a differnet part…The installation asks for an admin email and so I can put the user’s in there.

There is another section that follows called E-mail account configuration.

    E-mail account username
    E-mail account password
    POP/SMTP server
    POP/SMTP server port

Those are the things it asks for. I’m not sure what to put in there.

It asks for an address and password
That’s why we are reluctant to assist you with this problem: a “normal” (non_Fantastico) install doesn’t ask you, but gives you a password…

Yes, if you are having an issue with the actual Fantastico install process, you will have to ask the Fantastico developers, because they designed their own installer.

Well, I’m going ot have to do this many times and I can’t use MUWP because I don’t have the php skills. It would be too much of a hassle to manually put in new WP installations that’s what I’m even using Fantastico.

Is it possible that this is creating an email account for the “Writing by email” section found in WordPress?

Nevermind, I’ll go register over there and ask them.

Sorry for assuming 1 other person in the world might have used Fantastico to install WordPress. I should ashamed.

I found this thread while wondering the same question. The information is used by wordpress so you can make posts to your blog via email. The wordpress configuration page for this is at: Option->Writing

The configuration section is described as:
    “Writing by e-mail

To post to WordPress by e-mail you must set up a secret e-mail account with POP3 access. Any mail received at this address will be posted, so it’s a good idea to keep this address very secret. Here are three random strings you could use:”
