• Plugin worked fine until I upgraded to 2.7 <sigh>.

Plugin’s author site(s) don’t appear to have been updated in many moons and I found nothing there about any incompatibility issues (or anything else of a curent nature!).

When I go to add a Q&A and click on the appropriate link to do so, I’m taken to the “Pending Questions” page which is not where that link should go.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any hacks to fix it in lieu of waiting on the author to surface?

Look up 5 posts from here and you’ll see a link where you can download the 2.7 compatible version.

Add me to the list of people who was counting on FAQ-Tastic Lite to do its job, only to find myself unable to add questions to question groups and the plugin’s author nowhere to be found. (And while there’s no support, somehow the service that automatically sends out marketing emails is still working like a champ. And this after I manually took out that hideous Lolcat nagware thing on the dashboard. Charming.)

I downloaded it, @Alstatten, but I don’t know what to do with it from here. I put it in the plugins folder and tried to use it as a stand-alone plugin, but that didn’t work as it needed folders and things it didn’t have. So I substituted it for the “faq-tastic.php” file in my 1.0.7 version of FAQ-Tastic, but that caused errors, too. Can you tell me what is the undoubtedly very easy solution I’m missing here? ?? Thanks.

    De-activate the plugin.
Open the plugin in edit mode in the WP amin area.
Copy/paste the updated version over the onstalled version (the one that doesn’t work.)
    Save it.
    Reactivate the plugin.
    That should do it.

If it doesn’t, I’m expecting my programmer to finish a few more tweaks I’m having him do to it, then I’ll post that version, too.

Oops. Just re-read your post. You already did what I suggested but you did it to the 1.07 version. I did it to the 0.9 version. That worked.

    Got .9?

@Alstatten – Nope, and unfortunately the author’s site doesn’t offer it any more. However, if YOU would put .9 into a zip file and offer it for download somewhere, I think we would all cheer your name and virtually crowd surf you over to your own virtual throne where we would feed you virtual grapes. ??

Crowd surfing??!? We can do that here?? Well heck, yeah!!

Download that .9 version right here, honey!

    Install it.
Open it in edit mode in the admin area.
Copy/paste the new version over the old in the edit area.
    Activate it.
    Should work just fine.

Hello Alstatten. You are a real star, and if you want some nice links i would love to give them to you from a couple of nice sites we have as a gesture of thanks!

however, I am running 2.7 …. did as you suggested, and I get this error when setting a question …

Fatal error: Call to a member function approve() on a non-object in /home/blogcann/public_html/wp-content/plugins/faq-tastic/models/question.php on line 155

Does anyone else get this problem?

    Thanks!

I’d be happy to be linked to some really nice sites, once we get this bug all figgered out!

My programmer is supposed to have the plugin finished today. I’m having him add functionality to it to allow me to create an ebook out of the q/a, so we’ll see how that goes.

Once I get my paws on the finished/final version I’ll test it on 2.7 the old-fashioned way, post it on my site, then let everybody know right back here in the forum. (I won’t forget!)

Patience, Oh Great Link-meister, and all will be well.

    Hi there –

Yay! and Boo! Yay = posting of .9! Alstatten, you rock the free world and parts of Asia. ::catches you as you fall offstage and passes you to the next crowd member::

Boo = I can get to the Add Question page now, but when I try to hit save I get the same error LoveNotWar described above: Fatal error: Call to a member function approve() on a non-object in /home/blogcann/public_html/wp-content/plugins/faq-tastic/models/question.php on line 155 Le argh! I too am running WP 2.7, and the newly installed .9 version of FAQ-Tastic.

I await the results of your PHP programmer’s tinkering with bated breath.

Presumably it is a minor coding error, but I am no coder so cant see any syntax issues or anything.

I think that if one gets this working it would be a great project to take over. There really are not any other FAQ modules, and what with the rise and rise of collaborative content, it is quite an important module to have!

Hi everyone. It seems this topic is fairly well covered; but I thought I’d add my experience in getting FAQ-tastic to work with WP 2.7.

For me, it was a simple matter that the latest official version of FAQ-tastic is referencing edit.php in various links within its admin interface — however, under WP 2.7, plugins are now organized under tools.php in admin area.

The FAQ-tastic files of concern (within the FAQ-tastic plugin folder) are as follows:

    • Main FAQ-tastic folder
    • faq-tastic.php
    • “admin” sub-folder (within the FAQ-tastic plugin folder:
    • admin_email.php,
    • group_item.php,
    • help.php and
    • pending.php

In each of those files, the instances of references to “edit.php” need simply be changed to “tools.php”

Then, of course, those files should be saved and uploaded over the plugin’s files on your site (making certain that the files from the “admin” sub-folder get posted to that same sub-folder and not to the main “FAQ-tastic” folder).

Then, FAQ-tastic should work with WP 2.7!

    Hope this helps!

    Copernicus:

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience! It definitely works! You’re a life saver.

Copernicus! I don’t even USE the plugin and I’m impressed. Well-done lad! Kudos! This is what makes open-source software whip the pants off the corporate jokers!! I’m sure the energy will come right back to you in a good way!

Copernicus! Good GRIEF that’s awesome of you to figure that out and post that! And such a simple solution! I did what you said and now the new version is working like a charm!

I love open source! Power to the users! All of us cooperating to GET ‘ER DONE!

    Gleefully,
    Tracy
