• Hi all.

I installed WordPress manually and had severe speed issues. So I followed all the ‘caching’ guides etc etc, but nothing worked. So I decided to install it again – this time directly from Plesk (a web server Control Panel). I installed it to a subfolder (Plesk wouldn’t allow me to install it to the root) and it was fast! Great! So i tried moving it manually back to the root. I changed the options under Settings/General so that the URL conformed, and then used this script (searchreplacedb2.php) to ensure the database was ok. Low and behold it was slow again! So I thought it may just be an issue installing to the root? I went back to square one, and manually installed WordPress. This time to a subfolder. Unfortunately, it was slow again!!

    Here’s my findings:

Installed manually to root – slow
Installed via Plesk to subfolder – fast
Moved Plesk install to root (from subfolder) – slow
Installed manually to subfolder – slow

Does anybody have any pointers on what this could be? I ideally want it installing to the root. Obviously my webserver is capable of running WordPress at the correct speed, but somehow, something is changing in the installations? I have no idea how this works under the hood, but it isn’t a caching issue!

    Thanks for any pointers.

There must be something I can try? Since my site suddenly dips in speed when I change the install directory, I’ve tried the following but it’s still slow:

    Enabled WP Cache
    Tried WP Super Cache
    Cleared browser cache
    Disabled all plugins
    reverted to default theme

And nothing. Still slow. Any suggestions?
