Fast loading / low bandwidth theme: Appropedia’s 13

  • I’ve hacked a theme to be as light and fast loading as I could make it:
    Appropedia’s 13.

    We’d greatly appreciate help making it even leaner. The Javascript in particular seems heavy (when I download a blog post as a complete web page, js is the biggest component), but I don’t know how to deal with that.

    The theme is based on “Thirteen” by Becca Wei, but heavily cut back. It’s very site-specific at the moment (using our logo, in particular) but when I get a chance to fix that, I’d like to submit it to the WordPress gallery. I’d need to know whether I need to attribute the theme it’s based on (it’s changed a heck of a lot, and I assume the creator of that theme got a lot of code from elsewhere).

  • there are 2 lines of white space at the top of your blog. check your source.

    Check the license under which the original theme was released. Also, even if you’re not legally obligated to do so it is still proper netiquette IMHO.

    I recently redesigned my theme including re-writing much of the back-end code but I still retain the original credits.

    You could always do something like “Based on blah theme by blah”

    Thanks – do you know how to fix it? I assume I need to edit
    Main Index Template (index.php) – but when I tried removing excess line breaks from that file, it didn’t make a difference.

    …after the Theme info fields in the style.css. Does that seem reasonable?

    The original website for the theme has been down for at least months. But I got it through WordPress so I gather that it’s on a GPL compatible license.
