Fata error on automatic update

  • Went for the automatic update to 4.2.2 and it failed.

    I am now getting the message:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_json_encode() in /home/cream01/public_html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 668
    if I attempt to log in to to the dashboard and a nasty little line on the base of every page which says:
    Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_avatar_url() in /home/cream01/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 2221.

    Any thoughts?
