    Hi!

I’m helping my friend with her website. She updated the theme and promptly received an error.

So I jumped in, turned off all the plugin by adding “.off” to the end of the file. Nothing got another error.

Also tried turning off the themes by adding “.off” to the end of the installed themes, leaving the default themes alone, thinking the site would go to the default themes. Nothing, got another error.

I contacted GoDaddy to see if they could help. They determined that the theme that was being use — Rokophoto from Themeisle — had thrown unwanted code into the core WordPress files.

So I deleted the two themes that were in there, again, leaving the default themes alone, and nothing.

Then I did a new install of the most recent WordPress update. Deleted the wp-admin and wp-includes files and uploaded the newest versions. Turned off all the plugins by adding “.off” to the plugins file. Didn’t work. Then added “.off” to all the individual plugin folders. Didn’t work.

    The error I’m getting is:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function apply_filters() in /home/northrupalyscia/public_html/wp-includes/load.php on line 317

Contacted GoDaddy again and they determined they couldn’t do anything more than tell me to turn off the plugins folders and since that didn’t work, sent me here to see if anyone has any ideas ??

Please know that I know nothing about script code.

Thank you so very much in advance!

Based on that error message, it sounds like the wp-includes folder or wp-settings.php file is out of date. You’d be best re-uploading the WordPress ZIP contents again, skipping only the wp-content folder.

    skipping only the wp-content folder.

    and the wp-config.php

I have the same issue, but I don’t know how to update wordpress manually.

Download WordPress, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
