We have a Multisite install on Amazon Lightsail. Installed the plugin as super admin but did not activate it. Went in as admin to the site and tried to activate the plugin. Get this error and it will not activate:

    Hi,

Looks like you’re trying to “network-activate” the plugin. Activate it on only the subsites on which you need a directory. This can be done under “Plugins -> Add New” as the Administrator user.

    Thanks

    Hi,

No, it is not activated at the network level, just installed. As a regular Admin at the site level, “add new” is not an option under plugins, I can only activate it.

This is my understanding of multisite plugins:

In WordPress multisite, only Super Admins have the capability of adding new plugins or deleting existing ones.

Individual site administrators can activate or deactivate whatever plugins have been allowed for their site, but they need to contact the Super Admin to ask for a new plugin to be installed.
