On one of my sites, we received a wordpress email that I’ve never seen before. The client uses a custom theme. It doesn’t seem serious but wanted to check with you. Is it just a memory issue?

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.8
    Current theme: (Custom)
Current plugin: Wordfence Security (version 7.5.5)
    PHP version 7.4.11

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 291 of the file /home/imyxsaljogzg/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/vendor/maxmind-db/reader/src/MaxMind/Db/Reader/Decoder.php. Error message: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded

  • I am having the same issue on a website. Since about 2 days now. What is causing this, and how do I fix it?

“Warning: fopen(/home/…./public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/waf/../languages/wordfence.mo): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/…./public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/waf/pomo/streams.php on line 185”

Hi @nomadcoder, thanks for getting in touch.

We have seen this crop up a couple of times since the latest plugin update, however it’s extremely interesting as the GeoIP database does get regularly updated, but there were no functionality updates to this part of the plugin as part of this update.

I have a few additional questions, just to focus down on the behavior of this after it initially presented itself to you.

    1. Has it only happened once, or are you seeing the message repeatedly?
    2. What is the timestamp and file size of wp-content/wflogs/GeoLite2-Country.mmdb?
    3. What setting do you have for Wordfence > All Options > Activity Report > Enable email summary? If it’s set to once a month, we try to update the country for a full month’s worth of records, which could be proving a high workload for certain hosting configurations or sizeable databases.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

@thesacredgs Your error message is different to the GeoIP timeout experienced by the topic starter, so for this reason we encourage each user to start their own topic as in the forum guidelines.

We can better help our customers if topics concentrate on the specific issues for a single user just in case there are differences in the server setups or the solution required. We’ll always be glad to help out!

    Hello,
Sorry for not responding sooner. I have been waiting for it to happen again and it hasn’t. I will create a new topic with the requested details if it comes up again.
