    Site is

    Wordpress 5.4.2
    PHP version 7.1.24

I attempted to update to Wordfence 7.4.8 today and the site crashed. Completely white screen.

I changed the name of the Wordfence file and the site came back.

I read through the forums and followed a few instructions given to another person with same issue.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and the plugin will not activate because it creates a fatal error.

I can’t find any error logs. Probably not turned on.

    Can anyone assist me?

  • Hey @drdavesmuin,

Can you please try completely resetting Wordfence and let me know if you’re still having the issue?

    Thanks for responding Gerroald.

In an effort to bring the website back I removed WordFence.

After reviewing the documentation in the link you sent I have cleaned up a few files that remained on the root of the site. (Modified .htaccess, .user.ini and removed wordfence-waf.php, wflogs and wordfence-waf.php)

So at this point WordFence is completely removed from the website. This took a considerable amount of time and effort to figure out on my own as I am no pro at wordpress.

I really liked WordFence. I don’t have time to take a chance on reinstalling it right now.

At some point I would like to try the premium paid version and have the support

    Hey @drdavesmuin,

I’m really sorry to hear about the trouble. If you do find the time to reinstall Wordfence I’d like to know if it helps. If it doesn’t, we can dig in deeper.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
