I’m getting this error message with WordPress 4.8

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 73400320 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /mnt/vol3/home/c/h/christ20/public_html/wp-admin/includes/theme.php on line 20

It has happened several times but the line number at the end will vary.

Typically, it happens activating a newly installed plugin.

Sometimes it immmobilses all functions from the Admin control panel. Other times it will allow some but not all functions to work I’m guessing that this is because it gets executes more of theme.php than on other occasions.

Can anyone give me a pointer as to where to start looking to get this resolved.

    Theme is twentysixteen

I have the following plugins installed:
    Askimet (preloaded, but not activated)
    Contact Form 7
    M1.Download List
    NextGen Gallery
Redirect 404 Error Page to Homepage or Custom Page
    Very Simple Event List

I tried to install Yoast SEO but it hit the fatal error. However, the Fatal Error has occurred when trying to install other plugins too but I had just assumed that there was a problem with them. However, I can’t see Yoast allowing such an error to get away undetected

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

Try reviewing this codex for some guidance for increasing memory available for php.

Thank you for your help which pointed me in the right direction.

Apologies for my belated acknowledgement of your help. At the time I got embroiled with finding a solution and hadn’t realised I’d left this post open.

For the record, in case others also get this error, I approached the company hosting my website and they increased the memory for me.
