Fatal error: Call to undefined function vc_shortcode

  • I updated to 4.9.1 and updated a number of plugins at the same time (silly in retrospect). After doing so I noticed the error below on my site. It seems to be either an issue with the plugin ‘Automotive Listings’ or its interaction with 4.9.1:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function vc_shortcode_custom_css_has_property() in /home1/oldcarguy/public_html/wp-content/plugins/automotive/vc_row.php on line 56

    I went to my HostGator File Manager and can see that line 56 which reads:
    if ( vc_shortcode_custom_css_has_property( $css, array(
    If someone is familiar with the protocol of this type of code, maybe you recognize an obvious error. I’ve tried variously deleting the whole line to deleting various bits of it but then I receive parsing errors on the surrounding lines.

    My support at Theme Forest has expired.
    Can anyone help or offer suggestions?

    you automotive plugin seems to be the error.

    Delete it using FTP/ SFTP , or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/plugins/automotive/ and delete it.

    My support at Theme Forest has expired.

    We can’t really support commercial themes or plugins here, as we do not have access to the code.

    That said, you can disable all your plugins one at a time to see which one is causing the error.

    Also, PHP errors rarely point you to where the actual issue. The error points to the line where it became a problem.

    It looks like Visual Composer is either disabled or not properly installed.

    As you use a commercial theme/plugin and need support, please use their official support channel. We feel they are best equipped to support their products.

    Thank you all for responding! I’ll answer/add additional comments for all here:

    T-P, Is there a reason to use FTP/ SFTP on the hosting site to remove the Automotive Listing Plugin? As a test I simply disabled it in WP and that error message went away and the functionality of the site came back (but then I get all sorts of code showing up as text on my pages so apparently I need this plugin – my site was built with it)

    kjodle, I disabled all the plugins and re-enabled them one by one and the only one apparently causing trouble is the Automotive Listings plugin.

    Mr. Stern, Please see the line above. May I ask what made you suspect Visual Composer?

    I think I am going to contact ThemeSuite and purchase the Automotive Listings Plugin again. That should reset my support window and hopefully those guys will sort this out – seems like the most efficient course.

    vc_shortcode_custom_css_has_property()

    The “vc_” usually indicates Visual Composer code.

    Is this the plugin you are using?

    If so, try:
    – reinstalling the plugin.
    – If that does not help, then I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/auto-listings so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

    t-p, No my Automotive Listings Plugin is related to my theme: Automobile Car Dealer Business Theme also sold by these guys: EnvatoMarket/ThemeForest/ThemeSuite.

    Mr. Stern, Interestingly a Visual Composer also comes with the theme I mentioned above. But I will look into the Visual Composer plugin as a possible issue as well.

    – For pro or commercial product support please contact the author directly on their site. As the author is aware, commercial products are not supported in these forums.
    – Also, forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly.
