Okay I’m having several problems with my website (www.ericbattertondds.com) and I’m afraid I keep making it worse.

I logged into my admin page but the dashboard came up completely blank. I did some reading on the wp forums and read that my problem is probably associated with one of the plugins. I went into my ftp site and deleted all the plugin folders. Now I’m getting this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_removable_query_args() in /home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 900

Can someone please help? I’m praying this is an easy fix.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If neither of those made any difference, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Thank you James for the advice. I tried the first two tips you gave but unfortunately I’m still getting this error message when trying to log into my admin page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_removable_query_args() in /home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 900

I also tried to update the wordpress app within godaddy but I don’t think that’s going to work either. To be honest I’m not sure if that’s where I’m suppose to download wordpress again per your instructions.

Ok, move on to the third then, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Download WordPress from the link provided there.

I had the same problem and fatal error as athornburgh. Uploading the WordPress files again via FTP worked for me.

    James,

I’m hosting my site in godaddy. As you instructed I downloaded WordPress 4.4 onto my desk top. I went into the godaddy ftp and deleted all the wp files & folders except wp-config.php & /wp-content/directory…leaving the originals alone. I uploaded all the new wp files/folders (except the two above) from my desktop. Now I’m getting this message when going to my website or to the admin site:

Warning: require(/home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-settings.php on line 21

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-settings.php on line 21

I hope I haven’t totally lost years of work at this point. Please help ??

It sounds like not all of the files were uploaded, or at least /wp-includes/load.php wasn’t.

We have heard of some FTP clients failing bulk uploads.

In this case, repeat the procedure, but try a different FTP client, or upload the files one-by-one.

    James,

I think I’m a little closer. I realized after your last post I had not uploaded the folder directories (wp-admin & wp-content). So that’s been done. I can now get into my admin page BUT when navigated to the website itself I’m just getting a blank screen. Thoughts on that? I believe the issue now is with the theme. It says it’s not available.

Thank you very much for your help!

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    James,

All plugins were already deactivated. I tried to download the Twenty Fifteen theme and I get this error message:

    Installing Theme: Twenty Fifteen 1.4
    Downloading install package from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/theme/twentyfifteen.1.4.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

    Could not create directory. /home/content/e/r/i/ericbatterton/html/wp-content/themes/twentyfifteen/

    Theme install failed.

    ugh ??

So, that’s this bug which will be fixed in 4.4.1: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/34976

You’ll have to install Twenty Fifteen manually into /wp-content/themes/ from https://www.ads-software.com/themes/twentyfifteen/

    James,

Disregard my last post. I went back through the thread and found that the themes folder didn’t exist within the wp-content/directory. So I made a new folder inside titled “themes”. went back into my admin page and downloaded again and it worked. The site is back up now (YEAH!) but all my content is missing. I’m sure it’s another simple fix but not sure where yet.

    Thank you!

    @althornburgh

It seems you’re almost there, reimport your posts now to make it back (either by WP import plugin from Automattic or by MySql direct import).

    Good luck,

    Hi James Huff,

I had the same issue and was able to resolve it following your instructions. I downloaded WordPress, deleted all files and folder that has replacement in the new WordPress copy then replaced everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download..

    Thanks a lot!
