Fatal error: Cannot redeclare printr

Well I just tried to upgrade my WordPres install and am getting the same error

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare printr() (previously declared in “mydomain”wp-includes/compat.php:38) in “mydomain”/wp-includes/functions-compat.php on line 38

I am completely stuck and no longer have a blog ??

I didn’t have that many blog entries but I really don’t want to lose them if possible…..

Any help will be appreciated.

The previous post is 3 weeks old so I’m a bit worried that I may be screwed here ??

you should just be able to delete the /domains/1643/web/wp-includes/functions-compat.php file and your blog should work as this file is not in the 2.3.1 release.

I’ve managed to get past the “Cannot redclare printr” error message but now I have the following:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare validate_current_theme() (previously declared in “mydomain”/wp-includes/theme.php:452) in “mydomain”/wp-admin/admin-functions.php on line 1121

It looks like it doesn’t like my theme….but I’m not sure how to correct the situation.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Hi. It’s not your theme at all. This problem was caused when you upgraded your WordPress installation. When upgrading I usually delete the contents of wp-admin/ and wp-includes/ before I upload the new ones. Over the course of the years, the wordpress developers have renamed certain files and this is most likely the cause for your error messages. Just to test… Use an ftp program to compare your live directories to your local directories – you will probably see that your live site has more files than necessary – If this is the case, I would delete the contents of wp-admin/ and wp-includes/ and upload fresh copies of the files to the appropriate places.

Thanks a million! ?? I had followed the directions on the wordPress site for upgrading and I guess that created a situation where I had old files still in the wp-admin and wp-includes folders. Later I deleted the entire folder and unloaded a fresh copy (I thought) but that didn’t seem to work. I did that through cpanel…maybe I made a mistake there.

Anyway, I used an ftp program and deleted the two folders and uploaded fresh copies and am now in business! Thanks again.
