I was upgradeing my version of WordPress and something happened. This is the message I get now when I go to my site (www.whami.org:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare require_wp_db() (previously declared in /mnt/r0108/d31/s33/b0270626/www/wp-includes/load.php:323) in /mnt/r0108/d31/s33/b0270626/www/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3096

I have searched for a solution and found a thread somewhat describing my problem…but no solution was made. Here is that thread: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/fatal-error-cannot-redeclare-require_wp_db?replies=7

I cannot login to my dashboard to access anything. I use netfirms as my host. I do not have FTP. Is there anyway to just delete the old upgrade & take it down to the twentyten theme & keep my regular content? I can then start over or is there a fix to this code so I can get in to re-install the upgrade? I know I sound rather desperate – as we all are when we are asking for help…but I really appreciate any help I can get. Website: https://www.whami.org

    Thank you in advance

  • Your upgrade did not complete successfully.

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

I cannot login to my wordpress page….so I cannot do the phpMyAdmin & I do not have FTP.

    Any other ideas?

You do not need to login to carry out any of the suggestions I gave.

How do I do this step “- re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.” without FTP…do I need to do them individually (which will take forever?)

If you don’t have access to FTP, what file management application do your hosts offer?

I have a file manager through netfirms. But I don’t have the account that allows for FTP. An account that has FTP costs $215 for 2 yrs, verses the basic we have at $120 for 2 years. It is for a ministry…trying to keep overhead costs down to a minimum.

I have completed everything up to the last 2 steps:

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

BTW-THANK YOU! I do not know if you get paid to do this or not. But I really do appreciate it! You have no idea!

In theory, you should just be able to use this instead of FTP.

I do not know if you get paid to do this or not.

That would “not”. The entire forum is staffed by unpaid volunteers.

But I really do appreciate it! You have no idea!

We try to do our bit to help. ??

So – this file manager that I have, it doesn’t do an upload of all files & folders. I have to manually go to each file and upload it through each & every folder as well. Is there another way to do this?

Am I replacing the orignals with the new?

The only thing I can suggest is that you contact your hosts for assistance. You do need to be able to upload files & folders.

Ok – so now I can upload the files. I need to replace all of the files & folders except the wp-content folder. Right?

    Correct.

    gOT IT WORKING!!!

    Thank you so much!!! Really.

Glad to hear that you finally got it sorted. ??

Worked for me 2, make sure you do not replace your wp-config.php file besides the wp-content folder.
