    Hello all, I have no longer access to my web site, nor to the admin area. Please have a look at the lengthy error message when you call up my site, and be assured of my gratitude for a hint on how to go about that!

    I do have access to my provider’s system, but no clue on what to do there… They informed me in Feb. that the site will run on PHP 8.1. So I removed a plugin which prevented the site from working – CMS Pack – and since then things worked. I don’t know since when this fatal error occurs, since I only rarely go to the site.

    Thanks,

    Steinspecht

  • The error is throwing from the theme of the website 'wp-content/themes/nordic/widgets/widget-latest-posts.php(86)' Please try switching to a default theme or try fixing the error in the active theme to reinstate the website.

    As @mujuonly has pointed out already, the problem stems from your theme, Nordic.

    This is a commercial theme, so unfortunately, we won’t be able to offer any assistance here since we don’t have access to the theme’s code (being a commercial product).

    I checked the theme’s sales page on ThemeForest, and it seems it’s not seen any update in 6 years. That’s a generation in the tech world… and multiple generations in the world of WordPress. And that would explain why it’s finally broken under PHP 8.1.

    I fear the theme may have been abandoned, and your best bet might be to rip it off and rebuild your site with another theme. Of course, you may contact the vendor for help with this, though the aforementioned ThemeForest page says “UmbrellaStudios does not currently provide support for this item.”

    I do have access to my provider’s system, but no clue on what to do there…

    Use either FTP or your host’s web-based File Manager to access your WordPress site files, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the theme’s folder nordic to something else. This should deactivate the theme and allow you to log in and switch to another theme (or at the very least, it’ll show a different error message if something else is broken).

    Good luck!

    @gappiah @mujuonly

    I did it, I did it! Thanks for the very clear instruction, took a while to figure out the ftp / filezilla access details, but then I knew what to do. Now working on the site appearance.

    @gappiah Chapeau for investigating deep into the ThemeForest, you’re absolutely right, Nordic is hopelessly obsolete.

    Cheers,

    Steinspecht
