    Version 2.9 of the plugin introduces a bug which prevents user checkout. The full error text is:

    Catchable fatal error: Object of class EDD_Download could not be converted to string in …/wp-content/plugins/easy-digital-downloads/includes/download-functions.php on line 201

    Note that I am using this plugin with Event Tickets Plus, so the error might be on their end. It seems the function is perhaps called incorrectly.

    On further investigation I am pretty sure the problem is Event Tickets Plus, so marking this resolved here.
