fatal error on plugin download

  • My site is hosted by a third party. I downloaded a WP plugin. Then found I cannot access my edit section and received a Fatal Error Message that said:

    Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context in /home/upper/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jquery-latest-news-ticker/includes/custom-post-type-helper-class.php on line 240

    Need help to get back in. What can I do?

  • Go to FTP and rename the Plugin’s folder :

    ./wp-content/plugins/jquery-latest-news-ticker/

    You can rename it to .jquery-latest-news-ticker (add a dot before the name). The plugin will get deactivated. You will able to login, login using normal login url :

    https://site-name.tld/wp-login.php

    (Avoid reloading any white page inside where you were).

    If still does not work, you might need to rename the whole plugins folder to deactivate all the plugins.

    It is remote hosted

    Actually, you mentioned it is third party hosted….some of them probably allows FTP access…except contacting the Provider’s support, probably you have not much options from my knowledge.
    May be you can wait if someone else is able to provide some solution for your situation.

    Thxs. You mentioned above FTP. How do I gain access to FTP?

    @22stars : Kindly separately ask (create thread) your question as your situation might not be like that of OP.

    @upper90 : We use FTP or SFTP Softwares like WinSCP (for Windows), FileZilla (for Linux, OS X, Linux) and connect with our FTP username, password and a specific port number (either 21 or 22) to access FTP.

    I tried using FTP. I placed the follwoing in my browser:
    ftp://yourLoginName@IPaddress
    Changed login Name and added the IP address

    It requested a login and password, which I entered.

    I was prompted again with the login credentials.

    Nothing happened

    Who is your web host? Host will give you the username, pasword and port number. username, password is not of WordPress installation, it is of Server.

    It impossible to say anything without knowing the details of kind or name of web hosting you are using.
