I had a lot of problems with wordpress, but I finally narrowed it down to one. It’s all been uploaded, but I get this error message on my site:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp() in /home/username/public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 14

This is my first time with wordpress, and I am in desperate need of help. Anybody know?? thanks!

  • It’s likely a file did not make it intact. You can FTP in and look for 0-byte files or simply delete wp-admin/ directory and re-upload that from the original .zip file (same applies to wp-includes/).

okay, I do see a lot of things I uploaded are 0-byte files. I see now what the problem is. I’ve tried to redo everything, even deleted wordpress and downloaded it again, but I have the same problem each time I upload. do you know what I should do?

you have the same problem with uploading 0-byte files? or the files are NOT 0-byte files and you are still getting an error of some kind?

it appears to just be the 0-byte files. when I delete some and go to reupload them, or even when I completely start over (delete wordpress and reupload everything) a “file already exists” window pops up in Filezilla for the 0-bytes. but some files have worked just fine.

Try to directly answer whooami’s question (I don’t see a clear answer there).

sure, sorry, I must have misunderstood.
the files I have problems with are NOT really 0-byte files.
only after they’re uploaded, they show up as 0-byte, when they actually shouldn’t be.
    I hope that’s more helpful.

What are you using to upload? Thinking you should try something different…

I’ve tried both SmartFTP and Filezilla multiple times on two different computers. Same sort of thing happens every time. :/ Ughh, I’ve been slaving over my computer trying to get this to work for about 3 days. Is there any thing else I can do?

Either of those should be ok.

When you delete (for example) wp-admin, does it actually disappear/go-away? Then upload with Filezilla and look for any failures?

yes, when I delete the files, they do appear to go away.

I’m not sure about your second question.
When I try again, a “file already exists” window comes up and asks if I want to overwrite a file, say, wp-admin/admin.php even though it’s been deleted.

Tell your host, tell them you’re getting file already exists errors after you’ve deleted them.

okay, I will, thanks so much for your help.

Good luck and let us know what happens…

okay, after much delibaration with someone from my server- it just won’t work. I could upload other files, just ont the WordPress ones. maybe the files are corrupted… I don’t know. I doubt that, though. she could upload wordpress files from her end just fine, but I still have the same problem. according to my host, my last resort is to beg somebody to install it for me. does anybody offer to install WordPress for people? I could pay them, of course.
