I’m using the Auberge Theme on my website and I just noticed this morning that the site is broken- I’ve not made any edits to it in over a week and it was working on Thursday.

    The error I get is:

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home4/lsmarket/public_html/wp-content/themes/auberge/includes/setup/setup.php on line 806

I can’t log in to wordpress, I’ve logged into FTP and located the setup.php file but I wasn’t able to identify they error (php is not my strong suite)

    Please help!

    Thanks!

I also uploaded an older version of the site and it fixed the problem for now. ?? Hope to see a solution soon!

    Hi,

The issue is related to the outdated PHP version you are using on your server. Please check https://support.webmandesign.eu/forums/topic/website-has-gone-down/ for resolution. (If you are using a child theme, check your changes too as a lot have been changed in Auberge 2.0.)

I’ve made the theme version 2.0.1 compatible with older versions of PHP again, but it is strongly recommended you ask your hosting provider to upgrade to newer version of PHP. WordPress recommends version 5.6 at least, while there is already a PHP version 7 released.

    Oliver

Thanks Oliver. At the moment your wrote your message, I updated to 2.0.2. and saw that it works again.

Hi…same issue here. I guess i’m confused as to how to fix or change version. I can’t even login to the wp-admin. Any help would be welcomed as to how to fix from the cPanel

ftp from backup or upload via cpanel (file manager) older version in order te temporarily fix it.

So just to be clear…the latest release 2.0.2 is the issue? should i find 2.0.1? thanks

I had issues with 2.0.1 / 2.0.2 solved it for me (same day release, but a few hours later)

OK thanks. I’ll try the new one

    Hi,

I don’t really understand computer-speak, but my site (damecacao.com) is also down, and I’m getting a massive headache trying to understand what I need to do in order to get ti accessible to the public & myself again, without losing any of my data. I keep getting the message:

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home4/kegandy/public_html/wp-content/themes/auberge/includes/setup/setup.php on line 806

And now I’ve wasted hours of writing and updating time trying to make it work. Please help!!

    @maxgandy

    Hi,

You should really ask you hosting company to update the PHP for you or do it via your hosting management panel. You are using an old version of PHP on your servers, that’s why there is this error.

If you don’t want to upgrade the PHP for whatever reason (you really should at least for security and performance of your website), the theme was made older PHP compatible in version 2.0.1. So, just download the theme files and install/upgrade it manually via FTP. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=update+wordpress+theme+via+ftp

    Regards,

    Oliver
