When I Activate the WooCommerce Square plugin, a Fatal Error crashes the site, producing the error log posted below. I deactivated every plugin except WooCommerce 9.3.3 and set the theme to WordPress’s default Twenty Twenty-Four template, but the fatal error persists. WordPress environment posted below error log. Could this be related to site being a development site? Very strange.

    Hey @dwilliiiiii ,

Just to confirm, you’re seeing this error after updating to v4.8.3. Have you had a chance roll back to the previous version to see if that resolves the issue. You can use the WP Rollback plugin to do this: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-rollback/.

That said, rolling back is not an ideal long-term fix. To ensure compatibility with all future versions, please check that PHP’s opcache.save_comments setting is enabled with your hosting provider. You may want to share WooCommerce’s full requirements with them, which can be found here: WooCommerce Square Troubleshooting Guide.

Once this setting is enabled, you should be able to update WooCommerce Square to the latest version (v4.8.3) without issues.

Please give this a try and let us know how it goes.

Thanks @jonayedhosen. This was my first attempt to install the Square plugin, so I don’t know if earlier versions would run properly. But that’s what I’ll try now and will report back. The host is Kinsta, so I’ll check with them re: opcache.save_comments.

    Thanks!

    Hey @dwilliiiiii ,

Sounds like a plan! Please let us know how this goes, we’re happy to provide further support if that doesn’t do the trick. ??

This is also happening on Bluehost sites. Just had the same exact issue when trying to install the latest version of Woo Square addon from the repo.

I rolled WC Square back to 4.8.2 and then 4.8.1 and both crashed the system in the same way. I’ve put in a ticket with Kinsta regarding opcache.save_comments. Wide open to other suggestions in the meantime.

Problem solved for me. Kinsta enabled opcache.save_comments, which was disabled by default. Square plugin activated and all is well. Thanks for your fast attention!
