• I’m getting a fatal error when trying to install my child theme (based on Blogum by WPSHOWER). Fatal error: Cannot redeclare register_menu(), etc.

I don’t fully understand what I need to do in functions.php and which functions I should do this in. Could someone please explain this is simple terms?

Also, if I change the parent functions, will that screw things up if Blogum is updated ever in the future?

What have you in your Child Theme?
Can you copy and paste the contents of your Child Theme stylesheet? If the file is too large, use https://pastebin.com .

Are you sure that the parent theme is child-friendly? Have you reviewed child themes? Have you asked on https://wpshower.com/forums

Thanks for your responses, so far. My test site is https://www.citypeppercountrypepper.com (you can access the css from Firefox). I’ve actually been able to install the child theme here, but when trying to install it on my “real” site, I get the error.

In terms of child-friendly, Blogum doesn’t specifically state that it is. However, I’ve seen several child-themed sites done from it, so I assumed it was.

Yes, I’ve posted to WPSHOWER’s forum, but one look at it and it’s obvious there is not much response…just a lot of 0 replies and spams. Too bad. Their themes look good. I’d even be willing to pay for them, if I knew I’d get good support.
