• Hello, hope someone can help.

After updating I received a fatal error and cannot access my wp dashboard normally. Through recovery mode I can deactivate the app and get in again. I am currently running:

    WordPress version 5.5
Current theme: Jupiter Child Theme (version 5.9.2)
Current plugin: Sermon Manager for WordPress (version 2.16.1)
    PHP version 7.0.33

In recovery mode I see the following message under your plugin:

An error of type?E_ERROR?was caused in line?62?of the file?/home/cccbedu/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/includes/vendor/CMB2/bootstrap.php. Where the sermons are normally listed only shows the shortcode (while plugin is active). For now, I have deactivated the plugin so I can work in my dashboard.

    Thanks!

    Thanks @almcnicoll

Error message as presented, and yes it does appear to end midsentence…..
at least looking at what others have circulated.

    Hi!

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Sermon Manager for WordPress.

First, visit your website (https://www.boltonvillasfamily.church/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://www.boltonvillasfamily.church/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php) and check for any visible issues.

Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

If your site appears broken and you can’t access your dashboard normally, WordPress now has a special “recovery mode”. This lets you safely login to your dashboard and investigate further.

    https://www.boltonvillasfamily.church/login/?action=enter_recovery_mode&rm_token=T0nEBP3c8c06poSs7aCb4T&rm_key=TCJKFQf5KRPsmVu8xAGxAe

To keep your site safe, this link will expire in 1 day. Don’t worry about that, though: a new link will be emailed to you if the error occurs again after it expires.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.5
Current theme: Social Care Lite (version 1.1)
Current plugin: Sermon Manager for WordPress (version 2.16.1)
    PHP version 7.2.31

    Hi Guys, we are sorry.
We tried to push the latest file 2.16.1 using SmartSVN but for some reason, some of the files did not fully load to our repository. We are going to review the cause of this unsuccessfully push. Here is the link to our 2.16.1 where you can download https://www.dropbox.com/s/iodkpnnqh4tpu09/sermon-manager-for-wordpress.zip?dl=0

Thank you @wpforchurch . I just copied 2.16.1 from the link above and uploaded via FTP. However now when adding a new sermon some of the fields that have been on the side are now missing, like preacher, series, tags, etc. What should I do?

@boltonvillasfamilychurch That does look like the same issue as me.
Although I fixed the plugin issue (you can see my workaround earlier in the thread, or you can download the older version that the developer @wpforchurch link to above) I also found that another plugin, Elementor, had got very unhappy (I’m not sure if you’re using Elementor too?) The upshot was, I could log in but got an error message once I had done so. However, I found that I could get into admin pages by back routes – e.g. going to an existing post by typing in its URL and then clicking “edit”, and then the WordPress icon in the top-left.
Once I got in there, I went to the plugins page and downgraded Elementor to the previous version (3.0.0 to 2.9.9) and since then it’s all behaved a bit better.
    Hope that helps?

same problem here. Had to disable the plugin so we could login.

@pierricklidia Its good to go now, we just uploaded and correct the discrepancy you can proceed with 2.16.1 Thanks…

Thank you. It no longer has the fatal error message. However, the sermons still does not appear. https://unionarpchurch.org/sermons/

oops, had to add the slug. Its working now.

    Thanks so much

Same problem here. “There has been a critical error on your website” and WP says the the problem is Sermon Manager.

We deactivated all plugins using PHPMyAdmin just to get back into our website, enabled JUST Sermon Manager, and sure enough we got the same critical error that breaks our website. Debut info is below. Warnings point to the plugin not being able to find helper-functions.php even though it actually exists in that sub directory.

So now we are forced to downgrade WordPress to a previous version and stay there until WP FOR CHURCH fixes this problem that breaks our website.

UPDATE: We found the link to v2.16.1 ZIP file on Dropbox. Accessed our website via FTP, deleted the sermon-manager-for-wordpress directory, uploaded the ZIP file, and uncompressed its contents to /wp-content/plugins. Sermon Manager seems to be working again, thank GOD.

If Sermon Manager Pro was a one time cost then we would upgrade, but $100 every year is just too costly. That is almost as much as web hosting. If it was $20/year then that would be more fair. We already pay for other subscriptions just so our website runs properly. ??

    Thanks, @shoreshdavid & @almcnicoll

In the end, we had to use FTP to delete the directory & upload the replacement folder & files from the developer provided ZIP.
A few lessons learnt at our end to do with updates and checking compatibility, though it seems in this particular case that wasn’t the problem.
Anyway all good, we’ve regained access.

Once again, thanks to all those who provide information.

    Regards.

Thanks @wpforchurch – I appreciate all you’re doing! After having issues with the 2.16.1 update yesterday and reverting back to 2.16.0, I did the update today and it seems to be good now. FYI, we are on WordPress 5.5 with the High Responsive theme and so far, other than some slight interface differences probably due to the WordPress 5.5 compatibility, it is working fine.

    Thank you!

I followed the update instructions posted by wpforchurc above and downloaded the plugin from the link. I updated the plugin and the site is now accessible.
However, WordPress is still showing fatal error messages although I am no longer locked out of the dashboard and I can access the plugin. The error report is below.
