My website has been down since April 2023 and I am experiencing the error "There has been a critical error on this website." As such, I was able to get connected to my host AWS console of my webserver, and enable debug logging as outlined here [1].

Once debugging was enabled, I was able to view the contents of that log using this command: tail -f /stack/wordpress/wp-content/debug.log?

Within this log, I observed FATAL errors related to a theme/plugin combination. At this point in the troubleshooting, myself and AWS support are able to determine that the error was due to a plugin: WooCommerce

While I can currently not login into my site’s wp-admin page, when I could (prior to implementing Step [2] below) I was unable to update any of my plugins, nor the 2022 theme, nor access settings. Because of this, I needed another method to update the plugins, themes, and wordpress so II used SSH to deactivate all the plugins as seen here [2]. This did not work and when I attempt to login to my wp-admin page now I see this: “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.” This was the original message on my domain address; however, no email was ever received to the admin email.?

If I login to wordpress or jetpack none of my data is displayed and it states that I don't have any sites connected. Prior to following step [2] the website was connected but half the features would not work and as stated the website displayed the aforementioned message.? Since completing step [2], I know longer have access to my wp-admin page. Prior to the crash in April 2023, the website had been working fine since it launched 18 months prior.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix or remove the WooCommerce plugin? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Justin

    Hi @usersmokebgone

I would suggest uninstalling WooCommerce by the steps in our documentation to remove it completely.

As stated there, this is destructive and permanent, we provide this information as-is – The WooCommerce.com Support team cannot help with this process or anything as a result of it, so please make sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database before you start. Most hosting companies have this included in the subscription, but you could also consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, it’s nice to know that you can restore your site.
