Ever since I updated the plugin to 3.1.4. I now have problems on WP 5.2.7. I was inside a Page and clicked on the featured image section. No images appear at all there. I tried to upload a new image but it just gave me a general error message that it didn’t work.

I then go into my Media section and it shows the image I tried to upload, but it also shows this next to it:

Warning: Illegal string offset ‘original-size’ in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/includes/class-updraft-smush-manager.php on line 129

Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/includes/class-updraft-smush-manager.php on line 129

Warning: Illegal string offset ‘smushed-size’ in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/includes/class-updraft-smush-manager.php on line 130

Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/includes/class-updraft-smush-manager.php on line 130
The file was compressed to 0 bytes using WP-Optimize

I then disabled your plugin and went back to that Page and clicked on the featured image, but it still doesn’t show any images there, not even white boxes. :/

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • @esch Sorry for the delay!

Can you please try to disable other plugins one by one and check if it helps to fix the issue?

    Thanks,

If the error message above says it’s from your plugin, why would another plugin be causing it?

    Hi @esch,

If the issue persists when WP-Optimize is disabled, it means that something else is provoking it.

Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-optimize/includes/class-updraft-smush-manager.php on line 130
The file was compressed to 0 bytes using WP-Optimize

These warnings are a result of the previous upload being interrupted before the compression happened or was recorded.

Do you have access to your website’s PHP error logs? There could be some relevant information recorder in them.

    Best wishes,
    Marc.

Makes sense. I have access to my Cpanel but not sure exactly where I should go to find the log info. What should I look for?

With Cpanel, the logs are usually accessible using FTP or the file manager (Files > File manager).
They’re usually located in the root folder, in a folder called “logs”. On my server, they’re called mydomain_com.php.error.log

The log file could also be directly in your website’s root directory, called error.log or something similar.

When you find the location, I would suggest attempting the upload again, so if the error happens, it will be one of the last things in the logs, so will be easier to find.

    Marc.

I also have access to FTP so went there. I don’t have a “log” sub-directory, and the only log file I have in root is “error_log”, but here’s an odd/interesting thing…

I downloaded it and looked at the last entry so I knew where to look when a new one appeared. I went into the Media section of my site and uploaded a file. It uploaded fine. I then deleted that file and went into a specific Page I have and tried to upload the image through the “Featured Image” link. It then gave me this:

“temp-file.jpg An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later. ”

And it just sat there doing nothing. I went back to the Media section and it showed the file there and claims it’s attached to that Page but it doesn’t show it in the actual Page.

I went back to the error log, but it didn’t record anything for this. It has been recording a Woocommerce error in that file as early as this morning, so I know that file is the main log for everything.

I see all the images in Media, but not when I click on “Featured Image” by the way.

I will keep investigating and will get back with you. Thanks for your time.
