    Hey,

I have the problem that in google search the favicon of our website is replaced by the one that shows when I open the yoast generated xml site map.
We checked the favicon is properly integrated, showing correctly on all other search engines or browser tabs. Anybody an idea, where the problem lies and how to fix that?

If you need additional info please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hello @tokohila,

Thanks for reaching out about your favicon. I performed a site search and I don’t see anything wrong with them in search results – https://tinyurl.com/28xnjqvt

Please provide us with screenshots that highlight the issue you are experiencing. You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

    Hey Maybellyne,

Thanks for your reply! The issue is shown in your screenshot. Our actual logo is a green cross.

In this upload, you can see our logo properly displayed in the left browsertab. you can also see the “logo” from the yoast generated sitemap in the right browsertab, or if you open the following link:

    https://hinterlandmedics.de/sitemap_index.xml

This “logo” also appears in the google search result, where I would rather see our actual logo. ??

I see what you mean, @tokohila! In the page source, I see your desired favicon but I couldn’t determine where the wrong image is being fetched from.

Is it a familiar image to you? Do you have it in use elsewhere on your website? Depending on your web hosting provider, could it be an image placeholder from them or associated with your theme? Sorry about the many questions…lol

It is unfamiliar to us. It’s not an image, that we have uploaded and our hosting provider has a different logo. I don’t think it’s from the theme either, as it was working for a long time and then changed. But it’s hard to tell, when exactly it first appeared, therefore we don’t exactly know, what change might have caused it… Any idea on how to determine where it is fetched from?

    Hi @tokohila,

It is difficult for us to find out what might have caused the wrong logo since we are not familiar with your site.

Can you kindly submit the sitemap to Google Search Console?

Kindly submit the index sitemap i.e /sitemap_index.xml only. If you have previously submitted it, you can delete the existing sitemap and then resubmit it. Doing so is not expected to hurt the SEO of your site.

Also, please know that Google Search Console is not real time. Crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Be patient and monitor progress using either the Index Status report or the URL Inspection tool.

How did you fix it @tokohila ?

We have exactly the same issue.

@lyricsh we didn’t fix it yet. But today we found an icon in the main directory on our server as a favicon.ico which had that symbol and was apparently loaded before WordPress was. We deleted it and will see, in the coming days, if that fixed it.
