  • It took about a minute to show up in Firefox for me. Not there yet in IE8, but that doesn’t surprise me. I’ve waited up to 6 months for a favicon to show up in a previous version of IE.

    As esmi says in the thread you pointed to https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/favicon-showing-on-admin-pages-but-not-website?replies=7 the solution is to wait a few days.

    Thanks for looking. I’m willing to wait a few days, but the site has been up for about nine days already.

    I just think it’s strange that it shows up when I’m logged in to the admin pages, but not when I’m a “regular” visitor to the site.

    Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!

    I’ll let others have their say. I just got frustrated and gave up, then poof they showed up a month or 6 later, depending on the site.

    Please forgive the quick bump. I posted this on Labor Day and realized after the fact that it probably reduced the number of people who might see my post.

    I’d appreciate some help if anyone has favicon experience.

    Thank you!

    Hi Everyone,

    I’m still having trouble with this. If someone wouldn’t mind taking a look to see why the favicon only shows when I’m logged in as an admin, I’d be grateful.

    Set the tag in your header from

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="https://ridgewoodsoccer.org/wp-content/themes/twentyten/favicon.ico" />

    to `<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”https://ridgewoodsoccer.org/favicon.ico&#8221; />
    `

    Firefox tells me that the image is a JPG, so if it is you should probably convert it into .ico format.

    Tech Geeks,

    You solved it! I changed the code and also converted the jpg to ico on one of the many free sites that does conversions to ico.

    All of my computers (PC and Mac) are showing the favicon now, except one PC with IE8 on a corporate LAN. My Blackberry still only shows it in the History list, but that’s no big deal.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Here’s a quick update.

    The favicon does show on my Blackberry now. Despite clearing the cache, I needed to delete the bookmark and make a fresh one. As soon as I did that, the favicon appeared.

    Also, the computer on the corporate LAN now shows the favicon in IE8. I guess I had to wait a few days for it to appear, as others already suggested.

    Everything’s working correctly now. Thanks again TechGeeks!

    I had to delete this:

    <link rel="icon" href="favicon.gif" type="image/gif" />

    and then my favicon showed up everywhere instantly

    I forgot to add that I used all the above advice as well. But deleting that bit of code I posted above is what allowed everything to work properly.

    I would like to add a favicon to my site I have both a free wordpress blog https://wrightcomputing.wordpress.com and a self hosted site https://www.wrightcomputing.com. My free blog added the favicon automatically from my gravitar I think. Is there an easy way to to make my other self hosted site do this.

    @wrightcomputing: Please post a new topic.

    Will do, thanks
