    Hi,

I’ve been using your free version of Yoast plugin for nearly five years now, so a big thanks to you. Admittingly, I have not given a lot of attention to the SEO Readability portion until recently.

But it appears the plugin is interpreting feature boxes, like what you have here, https://academy.yoast.com/courses/ , as one large group of paragraphs that are not separated by any subheadings. Is that normal?

I have to click on “Classic Mode” for your eye icon/text highlighting to work (which I know is standard). The plugin highlights the two subheadings above and below the feature boxes. Is there perhaps too much text in each of my boxes? Compared to your /courses/ page, I do have more wording.

So just wondering as one wouldn’t normally place subheadings between feature boxes so I’m wondering what the solution is.

    Thanks,
    Frank B.

Follow up… I made a copy of my home page and began experimenting on reducing the amount of text in the feature boxes. That made my readability score drop, mostly due to the omission of transition words. So I literally paste those same sentences back into where they were and suddenly, I get a green light on readability.

Before, I could tell it was taking your plugin a bit of time and effort in deciphering the context. It would often turn orange for both SEO and readability for perhaps 1-2 seconds, then both turn green. This morning, I found them both orange so I couldn’t remember if the Yoast was updated or not. I disabled auto-updates now so I can keep better tabs.

In summation, I believe my layout is giving your plugin a good workout! ??

The warning: “Subheading distribution: 2 sections of your text are longer than 250 words and are not separated by any subheadings. Add subheadings to improve readability.” is still present regarding the feature boxes.

    Hello Frank B.,

I’m sorry you are experiencing issues with our content analysis and the feature boxes provided by Total Theme.

Yoast SEO analyzes the default WordPress content areas like the title, URL, and the main content box (WordPress editor). Since you are adding content through the theme content boxes (as most page builders do), Yoast SEO may not be able to detect it by default. This explains the inconsistent analysis.

Although our plugin does not detect your content and shows an incorrect analysis report, this does not affect how search engines crawl and analyze your site. Search engines process the front end of your site and will detect your content.

    Hi Maybellyne,

I sincerely appreciate your reply and detailed information as this will help me in moving forward with using the free version of your plugin to its fullest potential.

I have to admit the Readability scores have dramatically improved page ranking, albeit I do struggle with finding creative ways of incorporating transition words and more active writing into my existing copy.

But your website has provided a lot of help, such as this page https://yoast.com/help/transition-words-in-your-language/#english .

But I think I’m going to treat myself to an early holiday gift by purchasing your premium SEO plugin for year. Just manually re-writing my home page instantly pushed it to the top of Bing/Yahoo searches. I know Google always takes their time before one see any results there.

    Anyway, thanks again.

    Frank

I also noticed that bullet points are being interpreted as a paragraph that’s over 300 words. Specifically, I have a page with 17 bullet points detailing a list of course items included (LMS website).

It seems there’s mixed reviews regarding this but curious what Yoast’s position is on this. Break the bullet points into smaller sections with additional subheadings?
