As a preface, I use Extra from Elegant Themes. I was looking through the css that loads on the page, and it is massive. It is hugely bloated, and I am confident that I only use about 10% of their CSS. I guess I either need to change themes OR hire a dev to remove just the essential stuff from the parent theme.

But, it got me thinking. Critical CSS is extracting ONLY the (above the fold) CSS that you are using, right? Why couldn’t Jonas retool things to rerun AFTER the page is fully loaded to create a complete essential-only CSS doc without all the bloat?

AO would initially serve the critical css. Then, after this, instead of serving the concacted CSS file… it would serve this essential-only CSS.

I am sure there are 9 million reasons why NOT to do this. But wanted to throw it out and get your thoughts!

    K
