Feature image caption on single posts

    How can the caption for feature images on single post pages be displayed? This is a bit of a deal-breaker given the requirement for news organizations to credit media sources.

    You can add the Featured Image Caption plugin to your site to add this option: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/featured-image-caption/

    Mission News is fully compatible with it and the plugin is working well with the latest release of WP despite not being updated recently.

    I had seen your previous recommendation to use “Featured Image Caption” and installed it. Got an invalid header on initial attempt to activate. Subsequent attempt worked but there was no change to captions being visible. Reading the latest reviews for the plugin, this seems to be the case for the past several months.

    Any other options?

    Apologies. I see now that while the plugin author says the captions appear automatically, they do not. Instead there now are additional fields in the post editor for adding and managing a feature image caption (a duplication of the media library caption field that I assumed would be used but is not).

    Not sure if this is going to work since I’m not likely to go back and retrofit years of past posts that require attribution of the source.

    Got it. I can understand not wanting to update every post. Let me look into a built-in solution then for handling captions. I’ll add a checkbox in the post editor and a global option in the Customizer so captions can be quickly turned on for all posts and then handled individually if needed.

    The new update (version 1.37) has been submitted and you will see a notification in the Appearance menu shortly.

    You can find the new option to show Featured Image captions in the Show/Hide Elements > Posts section in the Customizer. This will turn on captions for all posts across the site.
