Feature Original image (overwritten by compressed image) not working

The feature Original image (overwritten by compressed image) is not working properly.
From my studies and tests I can confirm that the plugin is maybe replacing the scaled version of the image created by WordPress, but not the original image uploaded.I have done many tests, and I can confirm that even though I have the option Original image (overwritten by compressed image) active, if I upload a 3.7 MB image it will still be uploaded with full size to my hosting.
After the upload I see the scaled version in my Media Library and when I click on the image, I see the WordPress popup “Attachment details” where I can see the image details and a link to the original image (with the original size not compressed). During my tests I also used ftp access to confirm that the original images were uploaded without any compression.`This is my example:
