Feature Request: ACF Support

The author of ACF has released this plugin Live Edit

Similar functionality to this plugin, but it would be cool if this plugin could support ACF.

Yes I am currently using that plugin also, it’s quite good. However I find it difficult with many fields across the page as it causes squishing.

Support ACF, as in, bring ACF to core, or support ACF on the front-end (and thus something that plugin should do)? I’m not sure what you’re asking… ??

If you’re familiar with the ACF plugin, it would be great if when pressing edit using the WordPress Front-end Editor, you can also edit the custom fields that have been inserted into a page. Perhaps this is something the plugin author would need to implement into their plugin. i.e. nominate fields editable by the WordPress Front-end Editor?

Currently custom fields are out of scope, but there will probably be something that’s extendible enough to add this functionality.

I read on the make.ui page that you are currently focusing on custom fields. Any chance they are working already, possibly with a little coded help?

Currently you can manage custom fields just as you can on the back-end. This plugin will not improve that unless it’s improved on the back-end. I’ll use whatever we have now, it’s not really the plugin’s focus.

@janneke Van Dorpe – for me the main idea would be to show fields created with ACF when you click the More options button at the top.

Now I can edit everything that’s default but not fields created with ACF.

Would this be hard to add?
Should I consider hacking it myself and maybe later you could add it to the core?

I’ll take a look, but generally things added by plugins to the back-end should then be added by the plugin to the front-end.

I haven’t done a project in years WITHOUT using Advanced Custom Fields. It’s an essential plugin. It should be integrated into the WordPress core (for admin level users at least). It makes WordPress a million times more useful and flexible as a CMS. I never build a site WITHOUT it anymore. Ever. So as awesome as this front end editor plugin is it’s of no use to me since the only thing is can work with is the_title() and the_content().

And Elliot’s “Live Edit” plugin can’t compare. It’s really not that great. There’s certainly nothing “Live” about it. You get this huge secondary edit pane and you can’t even see the changes until you click update and refresh the browser window. Would be awesome if the authors of these two plugins could get together and figure out how to add support for front end editing of ACF fields… either through an ACF add-on or some other method. I would TOTALLY pay for a “Front End Editor” ACF Add-On. At least $30 to $50.

I concur whole-heartedly about ACF and core. Also about custom fields. ACF Custom Field editing in the front will be easier with the 5.0 release, though, according to Elliot.
