    Hey!

Great idea, surprised it hasn’t been tackled already by more developers — so thanks — but what would really be useful is if there was integration with advertising plugins like Ad Injection (also available here at w.o.)…or, at least, the equivalent functionality, where ad units can be rotated.

Ideally, ad units are rotated under “no block” circumstances, and if blockers are detected, then there’s a randomly rotatable array of user-defined alternate content (namely, ads [!], if one so chooses…or, yeah, a set of pleas for understanding, ahem — or just pretty pictures, even…anything but whitespace!!!).

So how about it, huh? ?? Do you take feature requests??

  • Hello Jack,

Thank you for your interest in my plugin! I was also surprised at how few ad block detector plugins and scripts are available.

I’ve been working on an update to the plugin. Your message prompted me to wrap it up and push out the new update as it includes a feature which can accomplish what you are looking for.

The plugin now supports the parsing of shortcodes, from WordPress or other plugins, inside the content you specify in Ad Blocking Detector.

At first glance, I don’t think it will work with the Ad Injection plugin; however, it will work with any ad rotation plugin that uses shortcodes to output the end result. I have used the popular Ad Rotate plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/adrotate/) many times to achieve the cycling ads you described below, and tested it with the new Ad Blocking Detector update I just pushed out. I can verify that it does what you are looking for.

I wrote a rough outline of how to accomplish rotating ads, using Ad Rotate, here: https://adblockingdetector.jtmorris.net/display-rotating-ads/.

You indicated that you wanted two rotating content sections. One for “No Blocker Detected” and one for “Blocker Detected.” The post I wrote only shows rotating ads for the “No Blocker Detected,” but you should be able to create a second ad group in Ad Rotate with the alternate content you are looking for, and insert it into the “Blocker Detected” section.

Because the Ad Injection plugin you mentioned can do so much more than simply rotate ads, and because of the way it is implemented, it would be difficult to integrate another plugin with Ad Injection. I will investigate the possibility of interfacing with Ad Injection further as time permits. It looks like an awesome plugin and people seem to love it, so supporting it as you described would be great.

However, in the meantime, the combination of my plugin and Ad Rotate should allow you to cycle through as many ads as you want in any location where WordPress supports the use of shortcodes.

I hope this solution works for you, and I will investigate Ad Injection. Thanks for sharing ideas on how to improve this plugin, and if you have any other ideas or discover any problems, let me know!
