    Hi there,

a nice addition to this plugin would be the option to display a “Back to Top” button when the user scrolls down the page, so he can always back to the top of the website. It should work both on desktop and mobile.

As an extra, it would be nice to have a customizable arrow icon (svg maybe?) and colors (icon and background).

Hope this will be considered in the future ??

  • There’s third-party plugin to do that, but hey, if this plugin also does this, it will be awesome and so, I second this motion.

    Hi,

Yes, unfortunately, this is definitely not a theme-independent feature. There are (as already mentioned) several plugins that do exactly what you describe on any theme. Such as this one, for example.

Unless there’s something that the existing plugins don’t already do, I’m afraid it would be difficult for us to justify “re-inventing the wheel”.

    Hi,

    thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I’m not a fan of using plugins for such basic features, I would end up using so many of them and completely bloat my WordPress website. ??

I’ll try to see if I can find a basic script for that, to integrate in my functions.php

    Many thanks

    Yes, I appreciate that.

    • Where would you anticipate the best place for the arrow to be? Fixed bottom right?
    • How would you anticipate the arrow to appear? Fade in / fade out?
    • Where would the SVG be chosen from? WordPress Dashicons have a few? Would these suit? We would normally take an arrow that had already been used somewhere in the theme for consistency but there doesn’t appear to be one.
    • What form would the background that you mention take? A circle? A square?

All of this would need to be taken into consideration. Plus Twenty Nineteen does not load jQuery on the front end so all effects (scroll down, fade in, fade out) would need to be done with pure javascript.

We have not yet ruled out this feature for the plugin, but it’s not quite so straight forward which is why if there is an existing plugin that does the job, that may be a better option.

    Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Oliver

You’re definitely right, I tried to integrate a script I used for another website, but I failed. It probably relies on so much more stuff already integrated into the website itself.

I ended up using WPFront Scroll Top plugin.

OK, we’ll shelve this feature for the meantime then unless there’s significant demand for a lightweight alternative to WPFront Scroll Top plugin.
