• Hi WPForms,

especially small sites, which dont run analysics & co and are build around privacy, may want to avoid googles reCaptcha.
These low-budget-sites will probably use WPForms Lite.
I read, that WPForms lite offers reCaptcha-Support, but the build in captcha is blocked behind the paywall.
I understand, that upsellings to the PRO-Version are necessary, but would it make more sense to target sites with a medium/high budget? These website have less issues with recaptcha, due to some other privacy relevant tools on the site and (own) legal advice departments.

Maybe you could rethink your decision, and add a privacy-harmless (local) captcha to WPForms lite. Thank you!

    Hi @nyks-barton,

    Thank you for the suggestion!

I’ve made a note of the feature request and we’ll keep it on our radar as we plan out our roadmap for the future.

In case it helps to share in the meantime, we have a anti-spam honeypot, which is enabled by default in the forms. This is available with any version of WPForms, including WPForms Lite.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply.
I created a simple contact form with WPForm lite and got 11 spam-messages by the contact form within 24 hours.
After your response I check the honeypot-setting: Its activated. So, honeypot doesn’t have a sufficient effect.
As being a very small site with just 2 content-pages, I use no cookies and dont want to use privacy-relevant stuff like reCaptcha.

Any other ideas to stop contact form spam (without the need for a privacy-consent)?

    Hi @nyks-barton,

    Thanks for the details!

It is on our radar to improve the honeypot feature in WPForms.

In the meantime, if you’d prefer not to use Google’s reCAPTCHA, we have a Custom Captcha addon. This enables you to set up math captcha or custom text questions. This addon is available with all of our paid licenses.

Alternatively, you can consider the following third-party plugins to protect your forms against spam:

    – ‘WordPress Zero Spam‘: This plugin is simple to set up, and works right out of the box.

    – ‘Spam protection, AntiSpam, FireWall by CleanTalk‘. This option requires registration, and offers more settings for customization. Just a heads up — this is a premium plugin with yearly subscription plans, though it offers a 7 days free trial. Please see their site page for more details.

Just to note that we’ll not be able to provide support for third-party plugins.

    I hope this helps!
