I like all my images to have valid ALT tags, for SEO purposes.

When inserting an image in a SiteOrigin Editor Widget, it will take on the default ALT tag from the media library, unless changed. However when using the SiteOrigin Image Widget, the default is a blank ALT tag section.

It would be really useful to have a rule that an empty ALT section in the SiteOrigin Image Widget means the front end view will automatically use the default ALT tag for that image, rather than just leaving it empty.

    Is this possible?

    Hi Shaun,

Thanks for reaching out. Images added using the SiteOrigin Image widget are designed to pick up on the images alt text if it’s set in the Media Library and the Alt Text setting isn’t set.

I just ran a test and it’s working as expected for me. Hm. Can you please link me to a page on your website where I can inspect a SiteOrigin Image widget and the same image added using a SiteOrigin Editor widget? This will allow me to compare the differences on your website and hopefully give me a better idea of why it’s not working as expected.

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    UPDATE: See Reply Below.

Hi Alex, sorry I wasn’t quite specific enough with the information above.

If I follow the following procedure:

    • Upload image to library without adding alt tag
    • Create image widget and use above uploaded image
    • Publish page
    • Add default alt text in media library

Then the image does not use the default alt text from the media library.

It only works if the image already had alt text when inserting the widget.

Hi Alex, quick update, I was incorrect – adding the alt text later on my blank test site does seem to to work! I’m not sure why this didn’t work before – perhaps another plugin is interfering with it?

I will mark this as Resolved.
