Feature Request: Invite at same role (bounty possible)
-
I would like to create a feature that, when invitations are sent, the new role of the invited can be specified at invitation time. So, if the current user is an Editor, then invitations send by her could, optionally, have the new user’s initial role would be that of an ‘Editor’, too.
I’m note exactly sure how to handle inviting other roles. An Editor should be able to invite somebody as an Author, but not as an Admin.
Would there be a WordPress-way of doing this? I really don’t know. I could imagine maybe taking advantage of multiple-roles, so you can only only invite to one of your existing roles, or to the default-new-user role.Motivation: I’m sponsoring the development of a plugin to give each user role their own entry in the admin menu, so, a submenu for all ‘Editors’ and another submenu would list all ‘Authors’. You can see a description and wireframe here: https://www.freelancer.com/projects/php-Wordpress/WordPress-plugin-New-Users-Role.html
I’m hoping to, if the current user has a particular role, then to add a Secure Invites button at the top of each of these pages that lets the current user invite people into that particular role. Maybe a simple URL param could flag the initial role.
I’m creating an backend-heavy site and I want people in a particular role to be able to invite other people into that same role.
