The folks at JPEGmini have decided not to help with any funding on the integration, so… one more thought to throw out there:

What if I ONLY implement this integration on the EWWW IO Cloud service. My reasoning is this:
    1. very little extra code needed for the plugin (mostly just replicating the way lossy PNG is done)
    2. It currently costs $40+ per month to license JPEGmini. The highest service level on the EWWW IO Cloud is $20/month. You can process all your images via my servers instead, and save yourself some $$$

So, any feedback on that? Either way, I’ll probably start with this, and then I can port the functionality into the plugin later if there is a need for it.

    +1 ??

I setup a digital ocean VPS with JPEGmini server a long time ago however it should be noted that the cost of the server now is USD100 per month. I believe even have a USD300 per month offering.
I have found that using the VPS in conjunction with WebP via a Google page speed Nginx PageSpeed Mod allows for me to get the quickest speeds.

One thing that would make this tool better is if you could also change the size of the photograph like JPEG mini in addition please take a look at feedthebot.com

According to their webpage, the price is $199/month, and it is billed annually, so I would have to come up with $2400 in cash to use that method. My plan is to use their AWS option which is only something like $50/month. Hoping that works out alright, but I’m not quite ready to start on this project yet. On the WebP end of things (as I’ve posted elsewhere), the plan is to start with generation of WebP, and leave the content serving up to the user with the initial launch (phase 1), and then add in support for the content serving via .htaccess (or something similar) as phase 2.

    Hi!

I know it’s only been 3 weeks, but do you have some news about the lossy jpg / JPEGmini integration?

    Thanks!

I do have news. Wasn’t planning on sharing it quite yet, but here goes:

EWWW I.O. 2.0 is due out early August with WebP and JPEGmini integration. The code is all in dev, but the JPEGmini cloud server is not yet active (planning to fire that up this weekend or early next week). The cost ended up being more than I realized, apparently Amazon also likes to jab you for using their brand of linux (which I think is just thinly veiled CentOS/RHEL). The integration works quite nicely, and the savings are quite impressive.

I’m super excited for the release, but need to get the freebsd binaries created for cwebp, and some general housekeeping done before 2.0 goes live. At any rate, I’ll post back here once the jpegmini function is open for testing.

Amazing! As for the pricing, you’ll probably have to rise a little the cloud handling // provide cloud keys especially for JPEGmini or something like that, but don’t worry about that. The value it’s going to add to one of my projects is going to be well worth the price I’m sure!

So long as the pricing curve covers a reserved instance fairly quickly, scale is profit.

I’m glad my off the cuff feature suggestion a year or so ago has evolved into such a robust business offering. Psyched to see how far you take this!

Fortunately, I waited until I could afford to absorb the cost of the jpegmini instance, so I won’t need to increase the pricing structure at all. Of course, I’m hoping that there will be a corresponding uptick in subscriptions when it goes live!

JPEGmini support will be live within the hour (just waiting for the changes to trickle out to all the servers). You’ll need the latest ‘dev’ release of the plugin to try it out: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/ewww-image-optimizer.zip

Remember that it requires an EWWW IO Cloud subscription to utilize. Plans start at $1/month if you just want to test things out.

Awesome. I’ll give it a spin on one or two sites when I finish up a few errands today.

I’d recommend sending a complimentary dev account to places like WPMUdev, WP Beginner, and TutsPlus. You’ll make your money back 30 times over. If you end up in a financial rut, I can shoot James at WPMUDev a contact about handling sales & service in exchange for splitting profit. I think you’ll be fine as it scales though.

I have a few questions I’d like to ask more privately.
