With TinyMCE and other wysiwyg text editors you have an option of adding “paste from word” and also “paste as plain text” and one of the options of the “paste as plain text” button is to make it so that using the keyboard shortcut for paste also forces paste as plain text to be done.

Currently it is possible to paste text copied from another website and it retains the font, text colour and background colour of the text and probably all sorts of other unwanted html markup.

Forcing paste as plain text will prevent this from happening, yet then allow the user to apply headings, bold and italic and add lists where appropriate after pasting the text.

    Hi,

a similar feature would be a problem for all those who need text formatting to be pasted.

To obtain what you need, instead of the ctrl+v keyboard shortcut, you can use ctrl+shift+v, which will strip all HTML tags and formatting.

    Thanks,

p.s. To paste as plain text on a Mac, you can use the shortcut: Option + Cmd + Shift + V to paste without formatting.

Unfortunately I have already had issues where customers testing the site have copied and pasted from another website and it has brought in all of the font and colour formatting and the text even had a grey background so it totally messed with the design.

Could paste as plain text be added as an option when enabling the advanced editor please? Otherwise the only solution for me at the moment is to disable the advanced editor as I cannot guarantee the customers will read the help text on the description field asking then to hold a different keyboard shortcut to paste as plain text, especially if they are tired or in a hurry when adding their listing. But then they will lose the ability to add formatting…

For anybody else with this issue there is a plugin I have just installed called Paste as Plain Text by Default:

It’s a simple plugin – just install and forget about it. No settings needed ??

    Hi @vaccinemedia

    Thanks for sharing it.

Generally, if you copy and paste anything in the visual section. it maintains the style too. that’s how the WordPress advanced text editor works.

I think this plugin is meant to do what you need.
