E-mail address and ecommerce data is the only thing registered in MC upon subscribing via this plugin. It would be nice to set which data fields from the order should be registered as well, for instance we often start our e-mails with “Hey *FNAME*”, but these personalized greetings are not possible when we cannot send the name to MC.

The option for now would be to use two MC-plugins, one to register customers with name, address, phone and groups and this one to register the ecommerce data, but that is not so elegant, as well as it uses more resources than necessary.

  • Hey there @orjansteffensen

Thanks for your post. The MailChimp For WooCommerce plugin does have the capability to sync the merge fields: email address, first name, last name, physical mailing address. While it’s not possible to map these fields manually, they should be syncing over to your MailChimp list with each purchase.

While we here are only experts with the MailChimp For WooCommerce plugin specifically, I would like to help as much as possible. Could you try to navigate to your MailChimp List Settings for “List fields and *|MERGE|* tags” and make sure that there are fields set with the merge tags *|FNAME|*,*|LNAME|*, and *|ADDRESS|* ?

If so, I would recommend disabling and re-enabling the MailChimp For WooCommerce plugin which should allow you to reselect the MailChimp list under the “Store Settings” within Plugin Settings, then be sure to select the “Resync” button under the Sync tab.

If you’re still not seeing that data come over, would you mind writing back to let us know? In addition, could you let us know the following minimum requirements for your site setup?

    — What is the PHP version running on the site?
    — What is the MySQL version running on the site?
    — What version of WordPress is installed?
    — What version of WooCommerce is installed?
    — What version of MailChimp For WooCommerce is installed?

Thanks again for writing in. I’ll keep an eye out for more replies if you need further assistance.

Hi Malachite, thanks for the quick reply.

We have set custom names on the merge fields in Mailchimp so that explains that. However, as long as custom name is a possibility in MC, would it not be wiser that the user have the option in your plugin to map order fields in Woo to merge fields in MC as well? If not, other people with custom merge fields will stumble upon this problem in the future.

Are there any more merge fields by the way that the plugin will transfer if it has original value in MC? Post code, city and phone perhaps?

    Hey @orjansteffensen

Field mapping would that would allow for that flexibility and something that I agree would make a great improvement to the plugin. I’d be glad to pass along your feedback to the team for future development.

I’m afraid that for the time being, First Name, Last Name, and Address are the only fields that are going to sync by default. Though as the plugin continues to grow, we can certainly look into the possibility of adding more fields.

I appreciate you sharing this feedback with us. While I can’t make any guarantees or ETAs, I will be sure this is shared internally so we can keep these ideas in mind for future updates to MailChimp For WooCommerce.

Let me know if you have any other questions,
    Malachite
