• The way WordPress handles the comments is pretty much aiding the automated spammers to flood the blog with spam. Yes, there are different ways managing spammers comments, like approve posting, install some type spam plugin, use captcha, or alternatively edit the comments.php file. Out of all this, it is probably editing the file that works best.

    Just recently a new plugin, SpamGone, has been made available that actually works pretty well with WP version 3.4.1. It removes the URL from the comment box and rejects automated comments that has the URL field filled out. Here’s a link for the SpamGone plugin.

    You may consider making this plugin for the next release of WordPress, with the option of enable/disable this functionality.
