The current thumb-placeholder.png is too low-contrast. The icon looks fine once you hover (which changes the SVG opacity to 1 and hides the PNG), but if you can’t see what it is in the first place, it doesn’t really do much good.

I could replace it with my own PNG, but it would get overwritten whenever the plugin updates.

Please update the plugin with a new placeholder image.

Followup: You’re already using a Fontawesome icon. If you really want to do it right, Fontawesome icons support color and size animation out-of-the-box. Please consider ditching the PNG altogether and using only the SVG icon.

You’d be adding the Fontawsome JS as a dependency, but you could easily subset the fonts to only the one or ones you need to save on the payload size. I’ve done this for the 3 plugins I maintain, as well as my websites that use Fontawesome. It requires some manual editing of the FA JS but it’s not hard. I’d recommend that after you subset the fonts you combine and minify all of the JS into a single file.

FA makes a subsetter tool, too — it’s available to PRO subscribers only.

    Hey @seezee,

While we are working our way to fewer dependencies, we appreciate the feedback and possible solutions you are presenting here. I have made note of all this and can assure you it will be considered when working on optimizations in the future.

    Many thanks.
