• Hi,

You wrote the following in the Faq:
I’m using the Thumbnails display. How can I change the thumbnail size?
The default YARPP thumbnail size is 120px by 120px.

In the future I may add some UI to the settings to also set this. Feedback is requested on whether this is a good idea.

I would be very happy if you would implement this very useful setting for adjusting the thumbnail size / aspect ratio in the settings menu.
So I could finally use the optimal space for YARPP preview images and adjust the same image format as the other images.

    many thanks

Thanks @detoris. Do you know what size you were hoping for and why?
We’ve been thinking about defaulting to a rectangular thumbnail instead, as most featured images are orientated like that. And we were thinking about it being about 400px wide and then resizing it to half the width and height on the page so it will also look good in higher resolution screens. Thoughts?

The original aspect ratio for most digital still cameras is 3: 2. This is why this format is used quite often for themes. If the themes want to look particularly modern, the aspect ratio also goes towards 16: 9, which is more common with videos. So a rectangular default thumbnail would probably make the most sense.

High-resolution screens will become increasingly standard in the future and should therefore not be neglected. However, larger images also bring longer loading times and this is increasingly seen as a negative criterion in Google ranking. Maybe the next WordPress version with the default lazy load for pictures will improve it.

My suggestion would be as a default 100px * 150px or 120px * 180px. An optional customizable setting for manual size and a clickable setting for high resolution (with resizing it to half) would be the best option for the future.

The possibility of aligning the thumbnails on the left, right and center and, depending on the screen width, automatically adjusting the number of thumbnails would be another great setting / function.

    Thanks for your insights @detoris.

It turns out enabling native last-loading images will be a few easy changes in our code, regardless of when WordPress core adds it elsewhere.

We’ll bear these suggestions in mind once we start planning this new feature, although we don’t yet have specific plans for when development on it will start. But I do think this should be one of our development priorities.

We’ll try to update this ticket once progress has been made.

    Thanks again!

    Thank you for your consideration

    Hi,

I used this plugin many years ago, then I stopped using it because most templates allow to have related posts with a nice css and it was a plugin that consumes a lot.

Now I’m forced to use it again because my template (Jnews) doesn’t handle custom posts and I saw that YARPP consumes less resources.

But I’m really surprised that after all these years nothing has been done to improve the appearance of the related post thumbnails!

All template and many related post plugin can do the same good work, 3 thumbnails well aligned and the ability to change the size of the title.

Hope you’ll do the same, actually I just use list, but it’s not the best solution.

re: default templates; your criticism is fair.

While YARPP has a very advanced Custom Template feature (where you can build your own template), it’s not for everyone.

We need to have more pre-packaged themes/templates.

This is a high priority for us and you can expect progress here soon.

    Ok, thanks,

“While YARPP has a very advanced Custom Template feature (where you can build your own template), it’s not for everyone.”

I try to find how to modify template, make search in google, but find nothing.

Do you have a link who explain how to modify template?

    I would go for the 4 main ratios: 3:2, 4:3, 16:9 and 1:1.
