• Hi!

I tried to post this into the feature suggestions thread but it seems to be closed, so I try it here.
It would be really nice if you could add a “forcehyperlinks” shortcode, similar to your “forcenumber” shortcode.
My idea is to be able to add hyperlinks behind the citations even if the currently selected citation style does not offically support links. The idea is that people expect a certain citation style, e.g. in a physics article, but most citation styles don’t show hyperlinks. On the other hand hyperlinks are all the web is actually about and really help readers to get immediately to a cited paper instead of going through copy and paste plus some search engine (Google or DOI search). As Zotpress is a WordPress plugin IMHO it should offer the possibility to add hyperlinks behind the citations.

    Thank you in advance,
    Anguel

What would the hyperlink be to? Would the whole citation be clickable?

    Hi Katie,

Thank you very much for the reply. If it is possible I would just add the links behind the citation and make only the links clickable like it is done in default APA style. This way the visitor will see where the link is actually leading to, e.g.:
    SOME CITATION https://doi.org/XYZ
    or
    ANOTHER CITATION https://link.springer.com/XYZ

    Best regards,

    Hi Anguel,

I looked into this, but due to the variety of output formats there’s no way to set this up. At first I thought I could use the last closing div tag as an anchor, but some styles use extra divs (and this is controlled on the Zotero end) so the formatting doesn’t work.

Ideally this is something that each citation style should incorporate in the digital age. One thing you could consider is making an extension of the style you’re using that uses hyperlinks. You could upload it to the Zotero styles directory, add it as the default style in Zotpress, and re-import.

    Hi Katie,

Thank you for very much for your time and for the hints. I will look into creating my own style.

    Best regards

    Anguel
