• Hello everyone. I am very new to WordPress, and I have a question that’s probably easily answered.

What is the big “FEATURED:” box for and how do I edit it?

I’m not sure what the rules are on bumping, but I need to know this ASAP.

This is not a standard part of WordPress. Check with the theme’s (or plugin’s) website or read me file for how to configure this feature.

Sorry sir I’m not understanding. Where should I go to get this thing working?

What iridiax is saying is “FEATURED” is not a builtin part of WordPress.

You are using a theme that you installed, that is not a part of WordPress. The instructions for how to use the features in that theme will be found either in a readme file in the theme’s folder /wp-content/themes/{themename}/ or else on the theme’s website. If you look in style.css in the theme’s folder at the top should be the URL of the theme’s website. Unless you tell us the name of the theme you are using there is no way to answer your question.

    I’m using Simply Indy.

I went to the website that created the style, and I followed their instructions on how to get it to work, and it didn’t work. It said to create a category called “Featured”, and add the post to that category to get it to appear in the box, but it didn’t work.

I am not finding any theme called that. You are best doing as I suggested – go to the theme’s homepage and read the instructions.

I’m very sorry, it’s Simple Indy.

This is what the website said.

“Create a category by title “Featured”. Add every Post to an appropriate category and if you want to display it under Featured Posts Section, add it to “Featured” Category as well. Once it is done, all the latest Featured Posts will be displayed under “Featured” section in the Home Page.”

I tried that and it didn’t work.

You created a category called Featured (with a capital F), and assigned the post you want displayed there to the Featured category, and it’s not showing up there?

from the theme instructions – make sure the # of posts displayed as featured posts is greater than zero

Where can I find the Theme Options Page?

You can find the Theme Options Page under Appearance folder on your WordPress Admin Menu Bar. It will have the title “Simple Indy Options”.

How many posts can be displayed as Featured Posts?

In the Theme Options Page, you can set the number of Posts to be shown as Featured Posts. But decide on an optimal number (taking performance into consideration).

No sir it’s not showing up. I made a post, and checked the Featured category’s box, and it did not show up.

    Hi

I just installed the theme, and assigned a post to the category called Featured. It immediately showed up on the homepage in the featured section.

On the theme options page there is a checkbox labelled Disable Featured Content: Make sure that is not checked.

Other than that I don’t know what to tell you – it works here. Try uninstalling the theme – switch to the default theme – and download a fresh copy of the theme and upload that copy to your server again, overwriting the existing theme files. Then make it the active theme again.

Just a thought – could this theme be using PHP to grab the featured articles? Wickett, maybe you’re using a host that doesn’t support PHP.

Anyone, feel free to shoot me down if I’m wrong.

Thank you sir I’ll try that. ??

acousticsam, that may be right. I don’t know. My friend is the one coding it, so I’ll ask him.

    Thanks to both of you.

EDIT: I tried it, it did not work. Apparently acousticsam is right.

Depending on how the featured box is coded, maybe you need pretty permalinks to use it.

If you were using a host that did not support PHP then WordPress would not run, since all of WordPress runs on PHP
