I have not tried it, but the Multiple Post Thumbnails plugin https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/multiple-post-thumbnails/ looks like it may help.

My preferred method however is to add a ‘slider’ custom post type – then an entirely separate image can be used instead of the one of the target post.

When doing this, you can use the Custom Redirect URL field in the Genesis Theme SEO Settings of the ‘slider’ post to set the link target.

@cubecolour – you can use add_post_type_support( ‘your-post-type’, ‘genesis-responsive-slider’); to enable the slider for your CPT.
